For a sustainable mobility and secure

Each week will generate more than 1.5 millons trips. The trips are mostly connected to travel outside of town, 880.000 trips per week, whereasthey arise from the same location and municipalities are 676.000 displacement.

Santa Coloma moves in a sustainable manner as show in the chart below where nearly three quarters of commuting are made either on foot (mainly internal displacement) or by public transport (by the underground transport outside the city).

Whereas the majority of internal displacement are made on foot, since 2000 has been carrying term rehabilitation and improvement of sidewalks through levels of occupation and have made several performances by creating pedestrian streets. An emphasis the pedestrianisation of the streets of San Jeroni, Tramo St. Carles, Bonavista and Nuevo.

Even so, and because of the urban structure of Santa Coloma and the high density of vehicles, we need further improve mobility within the city.

If we analyse the evolution of vehicles in the city, we can conclude that there has been a continued growth and from 1991 to 2000 and as from that date until 2004 growth has stagnated.

Only 27% of these vehicles have available parking space. This generates conflicts in the park to the street because of the difficulty of finding a space and creates indiscipline for pedestrians and for the same road.
The strategy pursued by the city council has been to equip the city with parking spaces, either through the creation of new parks under public land or tied to promotion of public housing, where the number of places is usually  exceeding the needs of tenants. At the next grafic you can see the current park and planned public parks initiative (both public and ground operations in public housing).
